BRIEF HISTORY
The Aquarius Campsite was opened in 1971. In 1972 the Lothar Rupp Family bought it (from the Aquarios Hotelera S.A. company), and today, this family-run business has passed down to the family’s next generation.
Over the last 28 years, the capacity of the campsite has increased from 183 sites in 1972 to 447 today and the available services have improved substantially. Thousands of lorry loads of earth were brought to reinforce the area next to the beach; over the years, the various zones of the campsite have gradually been marked off and edged with the planting of countless bushes and flowers; tropical palm trees and exotic plants have been tastefully introduced; and vast improvements in the facilities and services provided have all made Aquarius campsite what it is today - one of the most important campsites in Spain.

In 1985 the campsite was awarded the Diploma Turistico de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Tourism Diploma of the Catalan Government) and in 1991 Mr Lothar Rupp received the Medalla al Mérito Turístico (Medal for Touristic Merit). Since 1992 the Aquarius Campsite is annually awarded the Distinción ADAC del Camping (ADAC Camping Distinction). Finally in 1996, it received the Sello de Calidad (Quality Stamp) of Madrid and in 1999 it won an Honour Distinction from the DCC (main camping club in Germany).
Recently, the Aquarius Campsite has stood out for the implanting of an Eco-Camping project. This project includes all areas connected with the Environment: waste and rubbish disposal, water, energy, etc.
